Illnesses are a widespread evil, which can occur without one's own influence, but are mostly the product of one's own lifestyle. Athletic people who also eat healthy are far less affected than those who have an unhealthy lifestyle. The consumption of alcohol, tobacco and fast food in particular are a huge problem.
This consumption also leads to a Acid-base imbalance. If the pH of the blood exceeds the ideal value of 7,35-7,45 and thus becomes too "acidic", then complications arise in the entire organism of the human body. Almost all organs in the body depend on the acid-base balance and are always concerned with regulating this value.
If the value is too high, which is caused by an unhealthy lifestyle, then the intestines, for example, are not working properly. Symptoms such as diarrhea, constipation or cramps occur. At the same time, the body loses energy and strength because it is busy regulating the value and tries to keep the value slightly basic (7,35-7,45).
Acids and bases in the human body - absorption and release
Acids get into the human body in two ways: On the one hand, they are produced directly in the body when protein is broken down – humans have no influence on this. On the other hand, they are absorbed through foods that contain various acids - including milk, quark, meat, cheese, eggs, refined oils and fats, etc. The more of these foods are consumed, the more the body's acid balance increases.
At the same time, acids are "repelled" by the body and this happens all the time. For example, humans give off acids via the lungs (breathing air), the kidneys (urine) and the skin (sweat). This regulates the acid-base balance in the body, allowing the organism to function properly. However, this is only the case if the balance of acids and bases is in balance.
The principle of absorption and release is very simple in theory: no acids are absorbed, which are automatically processed and expelled again. However, as soon as there are not enough bases available for neutralization or the body cannot keep up with the high intake of acids, it looks for other ways to eliminate them. Then the acids are stored in the connective tissue.
This leads to acidification of the body, which technically also acidosis is called. This occurs when the pH is below normal, between 7,35-7,45. Acute acidosis, in which the pH falls below 7,15, is even life-threatening and requires medical treatment.
It is important here that the pH value of the blood is determined, as only this is meaningful for the acid-base balance. The pH value of the urine, on the other hand, is always somewhat acidic and is therefore not relevant.
A slight acidosis, in which the pH value is in the acidic range, is initially not noticed by the body. The human organism has a "buffer system" and can bridge many problems over a short period of time. However, it does not manage to do this over a longer period of time, so that at some point it is exhausted and problems develop as a result.
These express themselves as impaired functioning of the individual organs and the connective tissue. It is currently even suspected that an imbalance in the acid-base balance is the reason for common diseases such as migraines, osteoporosis and rheumatism.
Measures for an alkaline and healthy life
Fortunately, it is in the hands of every individual to keep their acid-base balance in balance. But once the principle behind it is understood, it is not difficult to implement:
1. Alkaline diet
The basic diet is the most important factor for the acid-base balance in the human body. The selection of alkaline foods is enormous and is mainly found in Vegetables and Fruits again: bananas, pears, apples, grapes, lemons, melons, artichokes, carrots, pumpkin, broccoli, cucumbers, mushrooms, rosemary, truffles etc.
In addition, the intake of liquids plays a central role in the acid-base balance. Drinks containing sugar or alcohol have an extremely negative effect on the balance, whereas Kangen water or natural mineral water have a very positive effect.
Important: A major misconception by the community is that foods that taste this way are acidic or alkaline. Example: Many people think of lemons or limes as an acidic food, but this is not the case. They are even very alkaline and therefore perfect for an alkaline diet. In contrast, some people think that pretzels are basic because of their taste, which is not true because they contain acidic ingredients.
2. Reduce protein foods
Protein-rich foods pose a major problem for acid-base balance good part of the diet are, they should not be consumed excessively, as they cause increased acid production in the body. This applies, for example, to fish, meat, cheese, but also legumes and cereals.
Important: 20-30% of the daily meals may consist of protein-containing foods, but should not exceed this value in favor of the acid-base balance.
3. Sport and relaxation
Since acids are broken down through perspiration and breathing, sport and relaxation are very important for the acid-base balance. These two factors also play a role in other health aspects, which is why they should definitely be integrated into life.
Important: At least three to four times a week sport drive and make sure every day that relaxation is built into the day: Yoga, walks or meditation.
